One of the best ways to discover our natural areas is to hike one of our trails.  They may lead you to the top of a Loess Hill prairie, along the Little Sioux River Valley, or over a suspension bridge.  Trails vary in length from 1/4 mile to four miles.  Although primarily hiking trails, cross-country skis, snowshoes, and horses are allowed on some trails.  A self-guided interpretive trail and suspension bridge is located at Southwood Conservation Area, near Smithland, Iowa. Trails around the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center are for foot traffic only, but connect with nearly 10 miles of hiking and multi-use trails found within Stone State Park in Sioux City, Iowa.
