If you are between the ages of 6 and 18 you are eligible to become a Junior Naturalist!

This program was created to promote the natural and cultural resources of Iowa through conservation programs aimed toward children ages 6-18. There are a series of requirements for two different age levels. Once these requirements have been met, the participant receives a certificate and a patch.

The requirements for ages 6-12 are: Attend three public programs. Examples include prairie hikes, night hikes, campground slide programs, hunter education programs, fishing programs, etc. Complete two independent activities, such as reading a nature book, fishing, hunting, camping, or hiking.

For ages 13-18: Attend three public programs. Examples include prairie hikes, night hikes, campground slide programs, hunter education programs, fishing programs, etc. Complete two independent activities, such as reading a nature book, fishing, hunting, camping, or hiking. One of the independent activities must be a one or more hour voluntary commitment toward a public conservation event. Examples of these types of events include National Trails Day, Earth Day, etc.

If you already enjoy nature and attend programs at the Nature Center, you are on your way to becoming an official Junior Naturalist and you will receive a Junior Naturalist certificate and patch! Good luck!
