: Do you have information about the Loess Hills and Loess Hills National Scenic Byway?

Woodbury County is located in the unique Loess Hills of western Iowa.  The Loess Hills were formed many thousands of years ago by the deposition of windblown soil.  Loess deposits of this magnitude are found only in western Iowa and China.

One way to enjoy the hills is the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway, a 220-mile stretch of scenic roadways that extends from Plymouth County to the Missouri border along western Iowa.  Special signs indicate the route and a brochure is available to guide you through this beautiful area.
